What to bring

  • A valid photo ID (passport or national ID).
  • A digital version of your rental confirmation must be produced upon arrival at the rental desk. Failure to present the rental confirmation means the car hire company may charge you at the local rates. Please note: We are not responsible for overcharges on rentals where the rental confirmation was not presented to the car hire company on collection of the vehicle. If you do not present the required documents, the documentation is not valid or you do not have enough funds on your credit card, the car hire company may refuse to release the vehicle and no funds will be reimbursed.

Fuel
Fuel: Pick up and return full. Your vehicle will be supplied with a full tank of fuel. To avoid incurring fuel charges, you will need to return it with the same amount of fuel as it had when you collected it. You may be required to leave a fuel deposit reserved or charged on your credit card, this will be released or refunded when you return the car full. Missing fuel will be charged on your return. The price per litre charged by the rental agent may be significantly higher than the price at the local service station. A refuelling charge may also be applicable.
Driver's age
25 to 99 years. Young driver's age: 21 to 24 years. Charge 25 EUR per day. Minimum 75 EUR Includes 23% tax Customers who fall outside the age limitations will not be able to hire a car unless there is a young or senior driver fee specified in this section. Please note that if applicable, this fee will be included in the rental price and will be payable on arrival at the rental desk in the local currency.
Travel Restrictions
Goldcar does not allow travel outside of Portugal. All cross-border travel is on request and permission must be obtained directly from the rental car supplier. Exception: Customers who pick up their vehicles at Faro, Lisbon and Oporto offices may travel to Andalucía at an extra cost of 9€ per day with a minimum charge of 35€ and with a maximum charge of 95€. Customers who pick up their vehicles at our Oporto office may travel to Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria & Basque Country. An additional cover is necessary for these customers. The cost of this additional cover is 9€ per day, with a minimum charge of 35€ and with a maximum charge of 95€. Goldcar vehicles rented in Madeira are not allowed to travel outside of Madeira. Vehicles collected in Madeira may travel to Porto Santo Island as long as the customer contracts the additional cover for a daily fee of 9€ per day of the total rental perio
Please note
  • A deposit amount of EUR 1400.0 will be held against your credit card for the duration of the rental.
  • Your deposit is a guarantee held in the event of damage/theft of the vehicle.
  • This will be released if there is no theft or damage during the rental period.
  • Please note that this does not represent your total excess liability which can be found in the Damage Waiver Liability section.
  • Credit card(s) must be valid for up to 6 months after the rental has ended.
  • NOT ACCEPTED: No other payment types will be accepted.
  • Virtual payment cards are not accepted.
  • A valid credit card in the first name and surname (no abbreviations) of the lead driver must be presented at the rental desk in order to pre-authorise/charge a deposit.
  • Please be prepared to provide the PIN number of the credit card(s) presented as suppliers could require this to proceed with the rental contract.
  • In the event that you fail to present a valid credit card, there is a lack of sufficient funds available on the credit card or the credit card is not in the lead driver's name, the car rental agent may refuse to release the vehicle.
  • In these instances, no funds paid will be reimbursed.
  • This location accepts Debit Cards.

Driving licence

  • The main driver’s original full licence (physical driving licence) held for a minimum of 1 year(s) with no major endorsements. UK licence holders must present a photocard licence.
  • If your driving licence is not in the Roman alphabet (i.e. if it is in Arabic, Greek, Cyrillic or Chinese) you need to bring an International Driving Permit and your domestic licence. International Driving Permit not required for drivers with a licence from below countries:

  • Please note if your driver’s licence has been issued in/from Gibraltar, Guernsey, Jersey or the Isle of Man, you will be required to bring an International Driving Permit and your domestic licence to present at the rental desk. All driving licences must meet the following requirements: (A) Driving Permit appears on the front of the permit in its own language, (B) Name, date and place of birth; Date of issue and expiration; Name or seal of the issuing Entity; Driver's licence number; Photo of the driver; Signature of the driver; Categories of vehicles allowed to drive and (C) The categories mentioned above must be detailed in a pictogram. In particular please make sure that in the pictogram Category B is permitted as that is necessary to drive Goldcar vehicles.

You have purchased XCover Damage Refund insurance to cover your excess:
1. The XCover policy covers you for this rental.
2. You do not need to purchase another policy to cover your excess at the rental desk.
Broken Windscreen and Glass
Covers all glass parts of the car: windscreen, mirrors, windows and sunroof.
Roof and Undercarriage
Covers the roof and the parts underneath the body of the car.
Late Pick-up due to Flight Delay
Covers any extra charges for picking up your vehicle outside of the standard hours, due to an unscheduled flight delay.
Travel Expenses
Covers you for any extra travel expenses you may incur in the event your rental car becomes unusable during your trip.
Misfuelling and Administration fees
Covers paperwork during the claim process and damage caused by filling the car with the wrong fuel.
Your Belongings and Keys
Covers loss or damage to personal possessions and damaged or lost keys.
Loss of Use
Covers any extra company charges that may occur if the company is unable to rent the vehicle due to damage.
Automatic Insurance Extension due to Delay
Extend the period of your insurance cover by a maximum of 24 hours if your travel plans are delayed for unforeseen circumstances.
